Historic Step by Directors and Screenwriters: SEF Established, CISAC Membership Achieved!
On Saturday, June 8, at a general assembly held in an enthusiastic atmosphere with a large turnout, we, as owners of cinematographic works, experienced the excitement of taking a historic step in the field of cinema in Turkey.
The four professional associations representing film owners, consisting of directors and screenwriters—BSB, Senaristbir, Setem, and Sinebir—have established the Federation of Film Owners, abbreviated as SEF, as a result of our long-standing collaborative efforts. SEF successfully held its 1st Ordinary General Assembly last weekend. The board of directors formed as a result of the SEF 1st Ordinary General Assembly consists of the following names: Tunç Davut, Mehmet Güleryüz, Yıldız Bilgin Bayazıt, Bahriye Kabadayı Dal, Ayhan Sonyürek, Sadullah Şentürk, Orhan Koçak, and Hakan Aytekin.
At the general assembly, which took place on Saturday, June 8, with enthusiastic participation from a large crowd, we, as owners of cinematographic works, experienced the excitement of taking a historic step in the field of cinema in Turkey.
There is also an important development from abroad!
CISAC, the global umbrella organization for rights holders, reviewed the application of the Federation of Film Rights Holders (SEF) with urgency at its General Assembly held in Seoul, South Korea, between May 27 and June 1, and approved our membership. Moreover, it accepted us as a full member, bypassing the candidate member process.
As directors and screenwriters, we now look to the future with much more hope.
In light of these developments, it has become much more feasible to make copyright agreements with new countries and collect royalties from different countries and regions around the world. Furthermore, we have gained considerable leverage in conducting copyright negotiations with channels and institutions in Turkey, lobbying on this issue, and exerting pressure. CISAC, which carries significant weight in the world of copyright, has paved the way for accelerating the copyright collection process through its contributions, support, and lobbying activities both in Turkey and abroad.
As owners of cinematographic works, we now believe that we will achieve much broader, more effective, and faster results in terms of copyright.
